Three kinds of Hartlepool garden
The town covers a wide spread. On the Headland and Seaton Carew, gardens face straight into onshore wind and salt spray, with sandier ground underneath. Around the older central terraces, back yards are small and often more paving than grass, with any lawn heavily shaded by walls. Out at Owton Manor, Fens, Hart and Elwick, estate and village gardens are larger, on clay, and follow the familiar pattern of compaction and winter moss.
Exposure first
On the coastal side, seed choice and timing matter more than product count. Autumn establishment gives new grass a chance to root before the winter winds arrive, and robust ryegrass and fescue blends handle salt and abrasion far better than fine ornamental mixes, which look wonderful for one season and then thin.
Small lawns, big impact
Plenty of central Hartlepool lawns are under 50m², which puts them at the visit minimum of around £25. At that size a proper annual plan costs less than a takeaway a month and completely changes how a small garden reads. Access is the practical constraint, since debris from scarification often has to be carried through the house.
Prices
Treatment visits £25 to £45, scarification £1.20 to £2.50/m² including removal, aeration 80p to £1.80/m², turf £8 to £16/m² laid. Any access uplift for a terraced property should be stated on the quote, not discovered on the day.
